\n\tBy the other method, fossil animals are <\/font>regarded principally as so many landmarks in the ancient records of the world, and are <\/font>studied <\/font><\/font>historically <\/font><\/font><\/i>and as regards their relations to the chronological succession of the <\/font>strata in which they are entombed. <\/font><\/font><\/strong><\/font><\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn so doing, it is of course impossible to wholly <\/font>ignore their structural characters, and their relationships with animals now living upon <\/font>the earth; but these points are held to occupy a subordinate place, and to require nothing <\/font>more than a comparatively general attention.<\/font><\/font><\/strong><\/font><\/font>\n<\/p>\n
